GLOBAL HEALTH ELECTIVE

Guatemala

Brenda in Guatemala.png

Dr. Brenda Brischetto on one of the trips to Guatemala. She is our residency’s OB curricular lead. She works tirelessly to expand our linkage with local doctors in Portland and here she is working internationally to help improve OB outcomes. On these trips, we

learn much from each other. Here the Comadronas and Brenda are sharing tips to reduce postpartum hemorrhage and improve maternal outcomes.

Residents often join for this short international Global Health experience. Providence has been going to the same sites in Guatemala for over a decade and the long term relationships strengthen the cross cultural learning.

Seated in the front row in the purple top is Dr. Cindy Talbot, Associate Program Director. She was a faculty leader on this trip, and is one of the founders of our residency. Next to Dr Talbot, in the middle of the front row in a light blue top, is Dr. Evon Anukam, Pharmacist PhD, MPH, BCPS, the Clinical Pharmacist at Providence Milwaukie Hospital and organizing leader of the trip. Her annual home cooked meal to honor our graduating class, is a much appreciated and anticipated event. So thanks, Evon, for sharing your incredible knowledge about medications, infectious disease treatment and your delicious food!

Dr. James Chong, a graduate of our program, is the Clinic Director at Providence Medical Group-Sunset Clinic in Portland, Oregon. He is seated on the far left, front row.
