CLASS OF 2025

Zhong “Bin” Chen, MD

Oregon Health and Sciences University

I realized in medical school that the fun of practicing in most specialties would wear off over time. What brings meaning and everlasting joy to my life stems from the relationships I get to build with friends, family, colleagues, patients, and my community. The breadth of practice in family medicine allows me to build those relationships and care for patients from all walks of life. I look forward to supporting my community by striving to be the best physician I can be and to always be curious.

On my free time I love watching sports, playing pickup basketball, running, hiking, and riding my scooter around the city. I also find great satisfaction in learning a variety of skills by DIY’ing many things from repurposing old electronics to car repairs to building computers and battery systems.

Thank you,

Bin

Medical College of Wisconsin

I grew up in Corvalis, Oregon. I ended up migrating over to Wisconsen for medical school and was able to make it back to Oregon for residency. I love Family Medicine for the intrinsic emphasis on patient centered care and the opportunity to develop long term relationships with my patients and community. My interests in Family Medicine include geriatric medicine and addiction medicine. I love the variations in patients and medical problems throughout the day.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy walking around the neighborhood while listening to music. I always feel more relaxed after spending time outside. I also enjoy going to music concerts, dancing and hanging out with my cat.

Alissa Kummer, MD

Oregon Health and Sciences University

I grew up in central California, and decided to move north to Oregon for college. I loved it so much, I decided to stay for medical school and residency! I decided to train in family medicine for the emphasis on lifelong, holistic care. Additionally, I have very broad interests within family medicine, to include both inpatient and outpatient care in obesity medicine, sports medicine, and women's health. At Providence Milwaukie, I found well-rounded training with a supportive structure and amazing people.

Outside of work, I love to get out of Portland and explore the surrounding forests and mountains trail running, backcountry skiing, rock climbing, backpacking, and mountaineering. The access to any adventure you could imagine feels unparalleled!

Kristine Park, DO

Pronouns: she/her

Western University of Osteopathic Medicine

I’m originally from the Chicago area, but moved out to Oregon for medical school and decided to stay. I discovered so many new hobbies out here that I really couldn’t enjoy back in the flat lands of the Midwest. I love family medicine because you get to build meaningful relationships with patients through continuity. My interests include geriatrics, palliative, and addiction medicine.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy going to live concerts, dancing, hiking, paddle boarding, snowboarding, and having a lazy Sunday morning at the farmer’s market.

Mary Parker, MD

Pronouns: she/her

Oregon Health and Sciences University

I started my medical journey studying Naturopathic medicine due to my belief that preventative medicine is the best medicine, however after a short while I felt that an education in allopathic medicine better suited my career goals for a number of reasons. I feel strongly about partnering with patients using shared decision making to decide on appropriate treatments/therapies. Each patient at the end of the day has to live their own lives. I can never live their lives for them and thus I try to actively support my patients in their own personal health goals. My personal interests in family medicine include LGBTQIA+ health, adolescent/young adult health, sexual health, certain alternative medicine therapies, palliative care, and more.

She is a strong patient care advocate and has taught about the importance of traditional medicine for indigenous communities. She enjoys the outdoors and backpacking with her husband Mino, reading, and hanging out with her cat Osa who considers Carina her “human” rather than Carina’s cat.

Owen Willis, MD

University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences

I chose to work in Family Medicine for the opportunity to serve patients of many backgrounds in a broad and evolving field. From my perspective, Family Medicine incorporates medical knowledge and personal connection and is a great way to live a balanced and fulfilling life. My personal interests include women’s health, community service and research. Providence Milwaukie/ Hood River offers the chance to learn from incredible faculty in wonderful learning environments. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to live in and serve the populations of such unique and beautiful communities. Outside of the hospital, I enjoy traveling, watching sports and comedy shows and cooking my wife some pretty incredible food.
