ELECTIVES & SELECTIVES
ELECTIVES AND SELECTIVES
When the American College of Graduate Medical Education doubled elective time requirements for all Family Medicine residencies, Dr. Jess Burness, Chair of the Curriculum Committee (with six resident and several faculty members) started working months in advance to build out electives. The idea of plug and play popular electives, were rebranded as Selectives. The robust process included learning how to do a brief needs assessment, develop curriculum, seek input and adapt planning and how to evaluate the success of the purposed curriculum.
Current Selectives include: Addiction Medicine, Behavioral Health, Geriatrics, Hospitalist Medicine, Obstetrics, Quality Improvement and Geriatric + Palliative care. .
